Jonas Babcock Chapter, NSDAR

Our meetings focus on the NSDAR Objectives of:
Education, Historic Preservation, and Patriotism


PictureSchool Book Give Away
                                                              Education:
  • *We donate school supplies and books to two schools in our area.
  • *We award DAR Good Citizen Awards to students at the schools to which we provide school supplies and books.
  • *Our chapter sets up displays for different DAR themes.
  • *We sponsor a Little Free Library through our Literacy Promotion Committee
  • ​*Education for our chapter includes navigating the NSDAR website, using NSDAR Online Communities, the NSDAR objectives workshop, and how to use Zoom, by our Volunteer Information Specialist (VIS) Committee. 
  • *Our monthly newsletter includes NSDAR minutes and information for all members.
  • *One member has a Flag Timeline lesson plan posted on the NSDAR website Resources for Teachers

                                           Historic Preservation:
*Jonas Babcock Chapter, NSDAR, has dedicated several Never Forget Gardens
in the Spokane, Washington area. The latest one is at the Spokane Valley Library.
*We helped restore the American Legion Cenotaph at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery  
*Jonas Babcock has sponsored many American History awards throughout the years.
*Jonas Babcock continues to work on their Patriot Plaza, where they have celebrations to honor our patriots.
​*We have also nominated the American Legion Cenotaph in Spokane and the Nathaniel "Nat" Washington House in Ephrata, 
WA. (Former Washington state Senator, Nathaniel  W. “Nat” Washington, is a direct descendant of George Washington’s brother John).
*With help from our chapter, the Almira Cemetery is now listed as a Washington State Historic Place. A marker will be placed honoring the 126 Veterans and the 15 members of the Nat Washington family buried in the cemetery .

                                     ​Patriotism
*​Jonas Babcock Chapter, NSDAR, celebrates our members, Patriots, throughout the year.
*Members attend and hand out flags at the naturalization ceremonies in Spokane, Washington.
*Monthly flag minutes are included in our monthly meeting documents by our flag chairman.
*Members celebrate Women Veterans.
*Certificates and pins were given to World War II Veterans in honor of the
​80th Anniversary of D-Day 2024, i
n 2025 for the 250th birthday of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and the 75th Anniversary of Korean War.
*Jonas Babcock Chapter, NSDAR maintains several Never Forget Gardens in the Spokane area.
*A Never Forget Garden will be placed, by the chapter, at the Almira Cemetery (pictured above) in 2026.

September through June, ​with the exception of January.
